Tech Meeting 4th Feb.

Join us on Thursday 4th Feb. at 16.00 for our monthly Tech meeting, accompanied by fresh pizza and cold beer! Roberto van der Linden will be presenting on Spring Integration.

Spring Integration is a simple model for implementing complex enterprise integration solutions. Roberto will discuss the main components and configuration of Spring integration and show a demo of how we used it in a project.

Introduction to Scala

Scala is a general purpose programming language designed to express common programming patterns in a concise, elegant, and type-safe way. It smoothly integrates features of object-oriented and functional languages, enabling Java and other programmers to be more productive. Code sizes are typically reduced by a factor of two to three when compared to an equivalent Java application.

Command Query Responsibility Segregation (CQRS)

Many applications use some form of persistent storage to store its state. However, important information about this state is lost: why is the state as it currently is. Command Query Responsibility Segregation (CQRS) is an architectural style that makes a clear distinction between commands that change the application state and queries that expose the application state. In this presentation, Allard Buijze will describe the background of CQRS and elaborate on the possibilities that CQRS provides for aspects as audit trails, historic information, fraud analysis and scalability.

Attendance is free, but preregistration is required.

3rd Dec. Tech Meet

Time for pizza, beer and tech talk! Join us for the monthly tech meet starting 4pm on 3rd Dec. at JTeam's office. December topics include:

Grails: Chris Male will introduce the basic concepts and discuss why this framework became so popular among the Spring/Hibernate community.

iBean: Dennis de Boer will introduce us to this relatively new technology (developed by the makers of Mule ESB) which aims to simplify the integration of external applications and services into standard web applications.

Attendance is free, but preregistration is required.

Search Symposium 12 Nov

JTeam is proud to present our 2nd Search Symposium. During our previous search symposium, we concluded that there are many different perspectives on Enterprise Search. During this second symposium we want to focus more on how do you get from requirements to the best ES solution.

The Search Symposium will be held on Nov 12, from 14.00 to 17.00 at Hotel Arena, Amsterdam. There is limited space so make sure to apply soon at signup@jteam.nl with a short description of your motivation for participating.

Java Meetup 30 Oct

The next Amsterdam Java Meetup is scheduled for Friday October 30th at Bar Rain in Rembrandtsplein. The event is free but registration is mandatory! Two speakers from the Dutch Java community will share their experiences and challenges with the rest of us, followed by a good old Java pub nite- plenty of drinks and interesting people to chat with. If you are interested in speaking at future events, let us know.

Introduction to Git by Jelmer Kuperus
Lately quite a few high profile projects moved to use Git - a distributed version control system. In this session we'll find out about the core ideas behind distributed VCS's and we'll see how they are put to action in Git.
Introduction to Android development by Tom van Zummeren en Frank Scholten
We will have an overview of the Adroid platform, discuss some of the limitation of the Java SDK and show how to get started with developing Android applications.

Tech Meeting 3rd September

The upcoming JTeam Tech Meeting is fully dedicated to Domain Driven Design (DDD) with the following sessions:

1. Introduction to DDD - This session will cover the basic principles of DDD. Based on examples and interactive sessions, you will learn how to combine the concepts to keep your application design understandable and maintainable.

2. Practical aspects of DDD - Domain Driven Design is a technology independent way of designing an application. In this session, we will focus on how the DDD principles and building blocks can be used in Java to keep applications with complex business rules maintainable.

ilocal Solr/Lucene case study

JTeam's technical collaboration with client ilocal in building its core search engine is the subject of a new case study published by Lucid Imagination, the Californian commercial entity offering services supporting Apache Solr/Lucene based Enterprise Search solutions.

Tom van Zummeren will talk about Apache Web Server features, covering: basic configuration and apache directives, error pages, security, logging, virtual hosting and aliasing, Apache2 prefork vs. worker, Apache2 filters, and some of the more useful modules (eg. mod_prox, mod_ssl, mod_jk, mod_rewrite)

Advance Apache Tomcat is presented by Allard Buijze who will discuss: performance tuning, trouble shooting, large scale deployments and AWS integration.

JTeam presents ilocal Search at Apachecon '09

This year at Apachecon, JTeam architect Uri Boness (pictured below right) presented an in-depth and practical case study on Enterprise Search, featuring the first full-scale business implementation of a Lucene/Solr solution in the Netherlands for client ilocal, a fast-growing local directory services company based in Amersfoort. Co-presentor and CIO of ilocal, Edwin Adriaansen (photo below left) presented the business context in which an open source Enterprise Search implementation was chosen, and the very positive results they are realizing since going live in February. Randstad's new job portal

On 8th July Randstad introduced their new worldwide job-board portal, beginning with the rollout of the Randstad Germany site.

JTeam architects, developers and UI partners supported the Randstad team in building this portal, which is based on Web 2.0 technology.

The first presenter is Rik Arends from Javeline, who will cover the core features of Javaline, a framework for an Ajax based RIA which was open sourced last year after an 8 year development cycle. Secondly, Tim "Toolman" from JTeam will be covering JQuery - the next generation javascript library that will rule them all!
